High school students begin their exploration of Earth and Space Science and related engineering concepts, focusing on the fundamental processes that shape our universe and our planet. In this course, students investigate the foundations of space science, including the solar system, the Sun, and the Earth-Moon system, as well as the tools of astronomy, such as light and telescopes. They explore the history of astronomy and the exciting future of space exploration. As students delve deeper, they study stars, galaxies, and the vastness of the universe, learning about the formation and life cycle of stars and galaxies. They also investigate topics in cosmology, including the expanding universe and the search for exoplanets and life beyond Earth. In the Earth Science portion of the course, they also explore Earth’s systems, weather, climate, human impact on the environment, resource use and conversation, and the challenges posed by natural disasters and climate change. Through hands-on experiments, engineering challenges, and real-world problem-solving, students develop a strong foundation in scientific inquiry and the engineering design process while gaining a deeper understanding of the Earth and the universe.
